Police have charged a man from Pennsylvania with shooting an Instacart driver who was making a grocery delivery that his wife forgot to inform him about.
Nicholas Sabo, 43, is accused of shooting the driver in the leg after his wife ordered the groceries on the shopping app without telling him. When the driver arrived, the wife allegedly informed her husband that someone was on their property and maybe attempting to break into their trailer.
Sabo then went outside and shot the unarmed driver, Newton Township police claimed. The bullet penetrated one of the man’s legs and impacted the other.
After being shot, Jerrie Wilchombe, a 35-year-old driver from Scranton, displayed incredible resilience and managed to get back into his vehicle with his wife and child. Despite the harrowing situation, his wife quickly dialed 911 for help.
Officers from the South Abington Police Department arrived at the scene, where they encountered Vanessa Sabo, the wife of Sabo, in a state of panic, according to The Times-Tribune. She welcomed the officers into their home, where they discovered her husband.
Nicholas Sabo allegedly indicated the location of the gun by pointing to a Glock 19 positioned next to his coffee pot. The police subsequently seized the firearm.
Wilchombe was located by officers and immediately taken to the Geisinger Community Medical Center for surgery. Jessica Thomas, the driver’s wife, mentioned that they were on a delivery for Weis Markets and provided the officers with their Instacart paperwork.
According to the outlet, she informed the police that her husband had gone to deliver the groceries but came back with a bleeding leg.
Sabo faces charges of recklessly endangering another person and there is a possibility of additional charges being filed in the future.
The preliminary hearing for his case is set for January 29. The police are still carrying out an investigation into the shooting and have been conducting interviews on Tuesday.
