On Monday, Robin Lee Reierson, 69, admitted to a federal felony charge of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers during the January 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol.
According to federal prosecutors, a resident of Schiller Park, Illinois named Reierson positioned himself in front of a police barricade and proceeded to push a barrier constructed of bicycle racks into a line of police officers.
According to prosecutors, Reierson eventually came to a halt and departed from the West Plaza of the Capitol while encouraging those around him to continue moving forward by saying, “Don’t stop; keep going.”
In Illinois, FBI agents apprehended Reierson on August 23. He was charged with federal crimes related to the January 6 Capitol protest, making him part of the more than 1,450 individuals charged by federal prosecutors from almost every state.
On October 16, Reierson’s sentencing hearing has been scheduled by Judge Reggie Walton in the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia after he accepted Reierson’s guilty plea.
On January 6th, the protest turned into a violent riot as numerous individuals attempted to prevent the transfer of power after former President Donald Trump’s defeat to current President Joe Biden.
Law enforcement officials have charged over 500 individuals with felony assaults of police officers or impeding law enforcement.
As the investigation into the protest carries on, it has been reported that former President and Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has expressed his intention to release the Jan. 6 protesters.
