Early Sunday morning, a 7-year-old boy was shot while riding in an SUV that was towing a U-Haul trailer on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago.

According to the Illinois State Police, the investigation into the shooting incident caused the closure of the northbound lanes of Dan Ryan at 73rd Street for approximately one hour. However, the lanes were reopened shortly before 5 a.m.

At around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, the Illinois State Police (ISP) received a report of a shooting incident on the northbound Dan Ryan at 73rd Street. As per the preliminary report provided by ISP, an unidentified vehicle started shooting at the victim’s car while it was moving north on the expressway, resulting in a 7-year-old male passenger getting hit.

After the incident, the victim’s driver quickly stopped the vehicle at East 22nd Street and South Michigan Avenue on the Near South Side and requested for help. The Illinois State Police (ISP) reported that the 7-year-old child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment due to the injuries sustained. Meanwhile, officers were also observed guiding two adults and two other children towards a police vehicle.

As of now, there is no update from the police regarding the condition of the 7-year-old victim or if any suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The investigation is still ongoing.
