The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is taking advantage of cutting-edge camera technology and advanced data analysis to improve the safety and security of the public. Thanks to a partnership with the Indy Public Safety Foundation (IPSF), IMPD has integrated 90 b-link business partners and around 375 cameras across the city. The Downtown area alone has benefited from the contribution of 29 business partners who have provided 222 cameras to support this initiative.

IMPD reports that they employ around 14 mobile trailer cameras that are placed strategically throughout the city. These mobile units offer flexibility and adaptability, enabling the department to address emerging crime trends as identified by community members, analysts, and officers. The cameras are wireless and can stream live video feeds directly to the Real Time Crime Center.

IMPD’s crime prevention strategy involves using surveillance tools that allow for real-time monitoring. This provides officers and analysts with the ability to quickly respond to potential incidents, making their approach to crime prevention more proactive.
