Legislator urges IRS to cancel tax-exempt classification of People Media Project

Jason Smith, the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and a Republican from Ohio, has written a letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) where he has requested that the IRS revoke the tax-exempt status of People Media Group due to their possible associations with terrorism.

According to a news release from The Ways and Means Committee, The People Media Group’s tax-exempt status as a charitable organization was called into question due to a journalist reporting for The People Media Project having potential ties to Hamas.

According to a letter sent to the IRS by Smith, The People Media Group, also referred to as The Palestine Chronicle, had hired an individual who was posing as a journalist. The letter discloses that Abdallah Aljamal, who was working as a “journalist” for The Palestine Chronicle in Gaza, was actually a terrorist with ties to the extremist militant group Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya, commonly known as Hamas.

In Smith’s letter, it is mentioned that Aljamal was reportedly working as a spokesperson for a labor industry that was being operated by Hamas. Further reports suggested that Aljamal was found to be holding several Israelis hostage in his home in central Gaza.

According to a letter, a person who posed as a journalist for The Palestine Chronicle in the Gaza strip turned out to be a terrorist. The letter revealed that the individual held Israeli civilians hostage in his residence, indicating that he was not a genuine journalist.

As per the letter from Smith, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), also referred to as the IDF, successfully rescued the hostages from his residence located in Gaza.

In his letter, Smith insists that the IRS should take action to revoke the tax-exempt status of the People Media Project. He argues that the organization has not been solely dedicated to its charitable mission and highlights the controversy surrounding Aljamal, who is allegedly linked to Hamas. Smith further points out that the IRS has previously revoked the tax-exempt status of other charitable organizations that have supported terrorist groups.

According to a recent post on X, the IDF alleges that Abdallah Aljamal was a member of Hamas and had held Almog, Andrey, and Shlomi hostage in his family’s residence in Nuseirat. The post further states that regardless of his press vest, he cannot be considered innocent of the crimes he has been accused of committing.
