Mississippi authorities have successfully apprehended a man who was wanted in multiple states for allegedly purchasing livestock and agricultural equipment using fraudulent checks.

The Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau (MALTB) announced on Tuesday, January 21st, that law enforcement successfully apprehended Johnny Payne II of Louisiana on January 11th in Rankin County.

During the auction in Carthage, which is about 48 miles northeast of Jackson, Payne was present when the Mississippi Animal Legal and Technical Bureau (MALTB) received a tip from an anonymous caller.

He was aware of his impending capture and decided to escape to Rankin County, located near Jackson. Upon his arrival, he was apprehended by sheriff’s deputies, as reported by the MALTB.

He is said to have committed these crimes in Texas, Missouri, Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina, and Mississippi.
