Officials have announced that a 36-year-old man is facing charges in the tragic shooting death of a 9-year-old boy in Newark.

Jesse J. Dunbar II faces charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.

Officials said that a boy and a man were shot in the area of Osborne Terrace on Friday evening, leaving the man injured.

Yasin Morrison, a young boy, was identified by WABC-7 as the victim of a shooting incident. The incident occurred as he, his 3-year-old sister, and a man were exiting a car and making their way towards the front door of his grandmother’s house at approximately 5:30 p.m.

We currently do not have access to the attorney information for Dunbar.

“The killing of any persons is a tragic occurrence, but it is particularly heinous when an innocent 9-year-old child loses their life to all-too-common senseless violence,” Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said in a statement.
