The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested a 56-year-old man from Silver Spring on February 13 for committing multiple armed robberies in Montgomery County and its surrounding areas. The suspect has been linked to incidents at Chipotle, Advanced Auto Parts, and a county liquor store.

The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division has apprehended Carl Otis Lowery, a 56-year-old resident of Silver Spring, for his involvement in a string of commercial robberies that took place in Montgomery County and neighboring areas.

According to the detectives’ investigation, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, around 8:15 p.m., Lowery walked into a Chipotle restaurant situated in the 10500 block of Connecticut Ave. Upon placing his food order, Lowery brandished a handgun and demanded that the employee open the cash register. However, when the employee did not comply with his demands, Lowery swiftly left the scene.

Around 8:51 p.m., on the same day, Lowery walked into Advanced Auto Parts on Bel Pre Rd. in Silver Spring. He asked for help finding a specific item and was shown its location. After that, Lowery approached the counter, brandished a black handgun, and demanded money. He then instructed the employees to go to the back of the store before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash.

At around 7:18 p.m. on February 4, 2025, Lowery entered a Montgomery County Liquor Store situated in the 11400 block of Georgia Avenue. Approaching the counter, he brandished a handgun and demanded the employee to open the cash register. Subsequently, Lowery absconded from the establishment with an undisclosed sum of money.

During the investigation, the detectives successfully identified Lowery as the prime suspect.

Furthermore, it was discovered by investigators that Lowery had connections to numerous armed robberies in nearby areas throughout January and February of 2025.

Lowery was charged with multiple counts of armed robbery and related charges after an arrest warrant was obtained.

Lowery was arrested on Atwood Court in Silver Spring on Thursday, February 13.

Lowery is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit after being transported there.
