A Pennsylvania parent was sentenced to one to two decades in prison after pleading guilty to various offenses such as attempted homicide, aiding suicide, severe assault, kidnapping, interference with child custody, and endangering the welfare of a child.
The lawsuit comes from an occurrence in October 2022, when the parent, 32-year-old S. Neggy, removed her then-6-year-old child from a relative’s care and transported her to a rural area in Pennsylvania. Authorities were notified after family members discovered handwritten messages left by the parent, in which she professed her belief that she needed fentanyl to protect herself and her kid and that God had told her she would die soon.
Police used mobile monitoring to locate the parent and her child in the rural location. The boy tested positive for fentanyl and opiates during the examination, but he survived and is currently being cared for by family members.
During the investigation, the mom informed authorities that she believed she was defending her kid from a potential threat. She claimed to be saving her child from a serious illness and wanted to offer her a peaceful death.
At sentencing, Common Pleas Judge FeIiciani directed that the parent continue to undergo mental health care while confined. Following her prison sentence, she will serve five years on probation. The court’s acceptance of her plea recognizes her mental capacity while keeping her criminally liable for her crimes.
District Attorney Ziccarelli praised the local police department’s investigative efforts and the professionalism of the assistant district attorney in prosecuting this difficult case.
