John Calvin Moore, 58, of North Carolina, was sentenced to seven years in prison after being found with a large amount of drugs disguised as Christmas presents.

Moore was found guilty of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

On December 22, 2023, the Oklahoma City Police Department stopped Moore for speeding and discovered over $350,000 worth of drugs in wrapped bundles.

With the assistance of a K-9 unit, they uncovered 42 pounds of methamphetamine and 38 pounds of cocaine in heat-sealed packages.

Moore, who had a past felony conviction in New Jersey for having weapons with criminal intent, pleaded guilty on September 26, 2024.

Judge Goodwin emphasized Moore’s role in drug trafficking across the United States, as well as his status as a repeat offender, during the sentencing hearing.

The drugs were disguised as “Christmas presents,” according to the US Attorney’s Office.

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration, discovered a transcontinental drug operation led by Moore that began with a police stop in December. Drew E. Davis, an Assistant United States Attorney, headed the prosecution. Moore was sentenced to prison and will serve four years on supervised release, according to the US Attorney’s Office.
