Are you passionate about nature and seeking an exciting career? Look no further than the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). With a focus on the great outdoors, ODNR offers a dynamic and thrilling work environment.

ODNR is currently searching for passionate candidates to join its latest group of cadets for the position of Natural Resources Officer. These individuals will receive comprehensive training to ensure that they can effectively safeguard and monitor Ohio’s state parks, forests, natural preserves, and waterways.

ODNR is currently accepting applications for commissioned officers and individuals who are interested in starting their career in law enforcement. The application window will remain open until August 4th.

According to ODNR Director Mary Mertz, Natural Resources Officers play a crucial role in providing guests with safe and memorable experiences. The officers’ commitment to service and safety is essential to the agency’s mission.

“Our team eagerly awaits the arrival of exceptional new members,” said with enthusiasm.

If you’re a passionate lover of nature and enjoy being active in the great outdoors, then you could be an ideal candidate for the role of Natural Resources Officer. This highly rewarding career allows you to spend your days patrolling the diverse landscapes of Ohio, engaging in a variety of tasks, including law enforcement, public service, education, and public relations. By working in this field, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference in protecting and promoting the natural beauty of the state for generations to come.

The chosen candidates will go through a series of interviews and a pre-employment assessment. Once selected, they will proceed to complete ODNR-specific training before attending the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy, which lasts for a period of five months.

Ohio’s certified peace officers will commence field training without attending the academy.

To be eligible to apply for this position, individuals must hold a valid driver’s license, be at least 21 years of age, and be a citizen of the United States.

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet certain requirements, including possessing an associate degree, completing an undergraduate core program, or having relevant experience in areas such as natural resources, fish and wildlife management, criminal justice, environmental law enforcement, or the military.

In order to be considered for the position, candidates will need to pass several requirements. These include a background check, medical examination, psychological examination, drug screening, as well as meeting the necessary swim and physical fitness standards.

If you’re interested in becoming a part of the team, make sure to apply for your preferred location(s). The selected applicants will be designated to a specific state park area. You can learn more about the application process and apply through this link.
