According to sources and authorities, a teenager attempted to mug an off-duty city correction officer by snatching his cellphone in a daylight attack after entering his Brooklyn building. However, the officer shot the mugger in response.

According to law-enforcement sources, Ryan Straker, who is 19 years old, reportedly appeared in the hallway of a building owned by a 54-year-old correction officer on Sunday at noon. The incident took place on Snediker Avenue near Linden Boulevard in Brownsville.

Sources have stated that during a confrontation with the officer, the teenager engaged in a violent struggle and seized his cell phone.

According to sources, the officer pursued the mugger and engaged in a physical altercation with him, exchanging punches and kicks.

During the altercation, the teenager managed to overpower the older man who was holding a gun. Sources suggest that the gun accidentally went off during the struggle. The teenager ended up on top of the older man.

According to the authorities, the teenager sustained a gunshot wound in his stomach and was immediately taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. Fortunately, the medical staff listed his condition as stable, providing some relief to the concerned parties.

Authorities have charged him with second-degree attempted robbery, third-degree assault, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

According to police, the off-duty officer did not require hospitalization following the altercation.

Sources have reported that authorities are currently conducting an investigation and are in the process of canvassing for additional video footage from the area.

The NYPD is responsible for answering any inquiries regarding the matter, as stated by the city Department of Correction.
