An animal shelter reported that over 25 dogs were rescued from an Ohio home that was in a deplorable condition, located in Hubbard Township.

According to the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, the 26 dogs and their elderly owner were discovered living in appalling conditions. Fortunately, the dogs were rescued and taken to a shelter located less than 10 miles away across the Pennsylvania border.

According to a report by CBS affiliate WKBN, the rescue operation took place in Hubbard Township after receiving a tip-off from humane agents.

According to WKBN, the initial call suggested that there were only three to five dogs present at the residence, along with some suspected puppies that had passed away under the care of the individual in question. However, the reality turned out to be quite different when the Animal Welfare League officer arrived at the scene. As Bethany Cluckey, the CEO of the organization, explained, there were actually 26 dogs in total at the residence.

According to WKBN, adult protective services were notified by the shelter about the owner. It remains unclear whether any charges will be pressed.

The conditions in which the dogs were found were revealed through photographs posted on Facebook by the rescue team. Currently, the dogs are being taken care of at the shelter, where the rescuers are addressing their medical and behavioral requirements. The team aims to make them available for adoption or transfer within the coming weeks.

With the new additions, the shelter’s dog population has exceeded 70. Although the shelter was already crowded to begin with, they are doing their best to accommodate every dog in need of shelter and care.
