According to a recent study, Ohio ranks as the tenth state with the highest frequency of twisters in the United States. The top five states with the most twisters are Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, and Missouri.

Examining tornado strengths, direct and indirect fatalities, and other factors from 2019 to 2024, this research determined the most severe states for tornadoes in the United States.

The study reveals that Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, Nevada, and Utah are the top five states with the least occurrence of tornadoes, making them the safest places in the United States.

Newly released data provides insights into the American states where individuals face the highest risk of tornadoes.

Personal injury attorneys Gatti, Keltner, Bienvenu & Montesi, PLC, conducted a study that analyzed state-wide data from the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). The study focused on the number of tornadoes per 1,000 spare miles, the number of direct and indirect deaths, direct and indirect injuries, and tornadoes rated EF2 and above, or with wind speeds exceeding 111-135 miles per hour between January 1, 2019, and May 28, 2024. The collected data was combined into an index and scaled per 100,000 people to facilitate a fair comparison between states and to identify the most dangerous ones.
