Oklahomans often dream of a white Christmas, and while those dreams occasionally come true, it’s rare for the state to experience snow on Christmas Day. However, this year, some parts of Oklahoma may see a white Christmas.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts that most of Oklahoma will have a dry and mild winter. It also forecasts that the 2024-2025 winter will be calm and gentle across the United States.

The Oklahoma panhandle, however, could enjoy a snowy Christmas. While the rest of the state will likely have a snowless holiday, the panhandle is expected to have snow on the ground.

In fact, Oklahoma’s panhandle has already seen quite a bit of snow this year. On Nov. 8, Cimarron County, at the tip of the panhandle, was under a winter storm warning. The area received more than 10 inches of snow over a few days.

Despite the snow in the panhandle, the rest of Oklahoma hadn’t experienced its first freeze of the season until later. Most central and southern areas finally saw their first freeze during the week of Thanksgiving. So, it’s no surprise that the panhandle is the only part of the state likely to have a white Christmas this year.
