A woman’s body was discovered in a wooded area on Indy’s near southeast side, leaving an Indianapolis mother seeking answers.

According to the victim’s family, they were tipped off that the woman might have been located in a forested area situated behind a food distribution center on South Keystone.

On Sunday, the family ventured out to search for clues and were devastated to discover the woman’s lifeless body inside a storage container.

Tara Capps, a 36-year-old woman, was recognized by her family.

“The experience is difficult, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through it,” expressed Virginia Summers, the mother of the victim.

According to Summers, her eldest daughter’s identification was confirmed through her fingerprints.

It remains unclear to the victim’s family how much time had passed before their loved one was found in the woods.

Summers expressed her disbelief and disgust at the heinous act, stating that the victim did not deserve such treatment. She went on to condemn the perpetrator, labeling them a monster and emphasizing that their actions were completely unjustifiable.

Surprisingly, the family had been diligently looking for Capps in the vicinity surrounding the forest for a week prior to the horrifying revelation.

Summers expressed that no family should ever have to experience such a devastating event, as it is the absolute worst outcome that any family could face.

Officer William Young of IMPD stated that the investigation began as a search for a missing person.

According to police reports, Capps was reported missing by her family on June 30th.

Although the authorities are investigating the case as a homicide, they have yet to divulge any details regarding a possible suspect or motive.

According to Young, the investigation is still ongoing, and they are hoping to gather enough information in the coming days to hold those responsible accountable.

Summers expressed her hope that the individuals responsible for this heinous act would be brought to justice. According to her, no one should ever have to endure such a horrific experience.

Capps’ mother made an emotional appeal to the public, urging them to come forward with any information related to the unresolved murder case.

Summers declared with unwavering determination, “I will not quit. Whether it takes 10 or 20 years, it does not matter. Justice must be served, and I will not rest until it is. Even if it means continuing until my last breath, I will not stop.”

If you have any information regarding this incident, please get in touch with Detective Ingram from the IMPD Homicide Office by dialing (317) 327-3475 or sending an email to [email protected].
