The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona charged 204 persons with illegal immigration activity last week.

According to a Friday press release from the office, federal organizations such as the United States Border Patrol, ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the FBI either “referred or supported” investigations involving 107 unlawful aliens entering the United States.

Prosecutors also reported 83 cases of illegal re-entry into the United States and 14 cases of those accused of smuggling migrants in Arizona.

What immigration-related cases were highlighted this week?

One case involving illegal border crossing was filed on Wednesday. It ended with a 46-year-old Mexican national being sentenced to 46 months in prison for conspiracy to promote and entice a noncitizen to enter the United States illegally.

That national, Ivan Mauricio Hernandez-Mosqueda, was accused of arranging the importation of over 100 unauthorized migrants from an unspecified period in 2023 until May 2024, prosecutors said. He allegedly directed them to falsely claim to be asylum applicants.

Another instance involving unauthorized border crossings was officially announced on Tuesday.

Prosecutors said the second case included a guy arrested for transporting illegal aliens.

Gabriel Santiago-Ramirez was detained by Border Patrol officials while driving an SUV on Interstate 40 near Kingman. Authorities discovered three noncitizens in the vehicle who were illegally present in the country, according to prosecutors.

Santiago-Ramirez reportedly attempted to flee the stopped vehicle on foot but was captured by authorities in the neighborhood. On Thursday, he was charged with transporting illegal aliens.
