A state trooper is facing charges after injuring a newborn and leaving them with head trauma, according to Attorney General Dave Sunday.

Christopher S. Young, 35, of Lancaster County, was previously charged with intimidating a witness in the child abuse investigation and is now facing additional charges. The Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Integrity and Professional Standards began an investigation that led to these additional charges.

The investigation revealed that Young was caring for the child and two other children in September 2023. During that period, Young harmed the infant, necessitating medical attention and physical therapy.

According to a release, the investigation revealed a history of abuse by Young. A witness reportedly informed the police that Young kept firearms available for the children and allowed a child to hold one.

In this case, authorities already accused Young of intimidating a witness, and now they are making additional accusations. Young allegedly stalked the witness, regularly calling and texting her. Police discovered Young with a gun and a knife in the woods behind the witness’s home. On Sunday, authorities charged him with harassing a witness, stalking and loitering, and nighttime prowling.

Young is now facing accusations of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment of another person. He was arraigned, and his bail was set at $50,000.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Young is currently suspended without pay.

“No one is above the law. The alleged actions by the defendant are deeply disturbing, and my office intends to hold him fully accountable,” Attorney General Sunday said. “When a sworn officer violates their oath it is a stain on all officers who selflessly and professionally protect their communities.”

Lauren Eichelberger, Senior Deputy Attorney General, is prosecuting the case against Young.
