On Friday, three men from Indianapolis were apprehended and charged in Columbus, Indiana, after leading the Indiana State Police on a high-speed chase that spanned several counties in southern Indiana.

Indiana State Police released a statement reporting that on Friday evening at approximately 5:30 p.m., an ISP Trooper made an attempt to stop a gray Chevy pickup truck for exceeding the speed limit on I-65. The driver was recorded going 87 mph in a 70 mph zone. Initially, the pickup pulled over to the side of the road, but suddenly accelerated away as the trooper approached.

As the police chased the driver, they reached speeds of over 100 mph. The driver exited the highway and headed northbound on I-65 at the Sellersburg exit, all in an attempt to escape the police. During the pursuit, multiple agencies tried to stop the driver by deploying stop-stick devices, but the driver managed to evade them.

As the chase persisted through Scott and Jackson counties, the officers noticed that the driver and passengers were tossing an unidentified substance out of the car.

The driver drove five miles south of Columbus, Indiana before crossing the median of the highway and proceeding to drive in the wrong direction on the southbound lanes. Upon reaching the Columbus exit, the driver collided with another car that was entering the ramp. After the collision, the pickup truck reentered the highway and continued driving in the northbound direction.

The pursuit was brought to a halt just north of the State Road 252 exit as officers were skillful in deploying stop-sticks. Their efforts proved successful in ending the chase.

James Vinson, a 35-year-old Indianapolis resident who was driving the vehicle, was arrested without any resistance. He has been charged with several offenses, including a Level 6 Felony for resisting law enforcement, another Level 6 Felony for vehicle theft, and a Level 6 Felony related to being a habitual traffic violator. Additionally, he has been charged with criminal recklessness with a vehicle as well as false informing, both of which are considered a Level 6 Felony and B Misdemeanor, respectively. Vinson was also found in possession of marijuana, which is a B Misdemeanor offense, and was wanted on several warrants in Marion County.

Indianapolis residents Cedrick Gleaves (29) and Carl Fulmore (23) were charged with possession of marijuana as passengers.

The authorities took all three men to Clark County Jail after the incident. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the pickup truck they were driving had been reported as stolen from Westfield, Indiana back in May 2024.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the other vehicle involved in the chase, and only minor damage was sustained.
