At approximately 9:45 a.m., officers promptly responded to reports of a child abandoned in the middle of the road near the Kroger store, situated at 59th Street and Seawall Boulevard.

“When I made that turn, it broke my heart to see a precious, beautiful, perfect little girl lying there lifeless,” expressed Brandon Uriba, the man who first discovered the child.

According to officials, the child remained alive and was immediately transported to the trauma center at the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston.

Uriba described the woman as having bruises and a bleeding nose.

The Galveston police provided an update on Wednesday afternoon, announcing the tragic news that the toddler, named Hannah Yonko, had passed away at the hospital.

“She’s not just trash. She holds significance,” emphasized Dawn Wagoner, a cherished resident of the island. “She holds value in the hearts of the people of Galveston.”

“This crime is absolutely horrific. Every child should always feel safe when they are with their loved ones, especially their own mother,” expressed Chief Doug Balli. He further stated, “The Galveston Police Department is fully dedicated to seeking justice for Hannah and prioritizing the safety of all children within our community.”

If you possess any information related to this case, authorities strongly encourage you to reach out to Galveston Crime Stoppers at 409-763-TIPS (8477).
