A woman was arrested Friday morning for reportedly stabbing three children, one fatally, and setting fire to a Logan Square home.

Officers were called to the home on the 3600 block of West Palmer Street just after 9 a.m. on a complaint of a person with a knife. Police claimed a 45-year-old woman attacked three children in the residence with a knife: a 4-year-old boy, a 10-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old girl.

They were all transferred to Cook County’s John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital. According to officials, the 4-year-old died after being stabbed in the chest. The 10-year-old youngster was listed in severe condition after being stabbed in the right arm. Investigators reported that the juvenile girl suffered grave injuries, including stab wounds to her face, chest, and back.

“It’s sad because it’s a holiday, the Fourth of July,” neighbor Juan Miranda explained. “It’s sad.”

Investigators have not confirmed the woman’s relationship with the children, but neighbors claimed to WGN she was a mother who turned on her own children.

While officials investigated the attack, firefighters battled a fire at the property, which was raised to two alarms. Crews were eventually able to get the flames under control around 11:30 a.m., after they had spread to a nearby residence.

A 31-year-old lady and a 34-year-old male from the neighboring home were listed in fair condition at Stroger Hospital after being treated for smoke inhalation.

Three of the responding cops were also transferred in fair condition to local hospitals for smoke inhalation treatment.

Area Five detectives are probing the attack and fire.
