A 19-year-old woman was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, domestic violence, and violation of a protection order after allegedly shooting and critically injuring a 17-year-old on Wednesday.

Pueblo police received a report around 1 p.m. that a teenage victim had been brought to a nearby hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound. They learned that the shooting likely occurred at a residence in the 2400 block of Lake Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities attempted to contact the suspect, Mariah Jaramillo.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, a standoff ensued, prompting the deployment of the Pueblo PD SWAT Team to aid in reaching Jaramillo. The standoff concluded peacefully when Jaramillo surrendered to police custody, stated Capt. Dustin Taylor, a spokesperson for Pueblo PD.

Taylor mentioned that investigators believe there was some form of relationship between the shooter and the victim. The juvenile victim remained in serious condition at the hospital as of Thursday, according to a statement from Pueblo PD.

Currently, Jaramillo is held without bail at the Pueblo County jail pending her court appearance.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Danelle Romero at 719-601-7820. To report anonymously, individuals can reach out to Pueblo Crime Stoppers at 719-542-STOP (719-542-7687) or submit tips online at pueblocrimestoppers.com. Information leading to a felony arrest could result in a cash reward.

Wednesday shooting marks second Pueblo juvenile shot since Sunday

The shooting on Wednesday marked the second incident involving a juvenile being shot in Pueblo within three days. On July 7, a juvenile sustained injuries while trying to retrieve a stolen bicycle with their father.

The father and son had seen the allegedly stolen bicycle in front of a residence and confronted the residents, resulting in a disturbance. “The juvenile was hit by a bullet,” police officials noted, adding that the injuries were minor as the bullet had slowed down. As a precaution, the child received medical treatment at a local hospital and is expected to be discharged soon.

In response to the July 7 incident, the Pueblo PD SWAT Team was activated to assist with a barricaded subject at the residence. Taylor confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with no further details available as of Thursday.
