South Carolina police were only checking on a reported fugitive. Instead, they found themselves in a reckless pursuit with a car that crashed into a ditch and a driver who discovered the hard way that you can’t outrun a radio. A 16-year-old hit the gas and attempted to flee officers on Highway 501.

The fastest way to get in trouble

Police received a complaint Saturday evening about a runaway spotted near Chinner’s Creek in the Galivants Ferry area. While heading to investigate, officers saw a car matching the description on Highway 501 and attempted a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, the teen hit the gas.

This is where things almost always go wrong. Where exactly did he think he was going? Did he really believe the cops would just give up? He must not have realized that patrol cars have radios—and that dispatchers know how to use them.

The teen was speeding toward disaster, a police chase, and a crash

As he swerved and sped through Aynor, the police chased the teenager relentlessly. However, his luck quickly turned against him when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch on Hughes Landing Road. Thankfully, no one, including the young driver, was injured in the accident.

Driving at high speeds can be dangerous, especially for inexperienced drivers. One teenager was lucky to escape unharmed, unlike a teen from Michigan who wasn’t as fortunate. Despite his mother’s warning text to “Slow the F— down!” when he was driving at 153 mph, he didn’t heed the advice. Tragically, a few weeks later, he crashed at 105 mph, resulting in the death of his best friend.

An Australian teenager made headlines for accumulating 48 driving charges in just six weeks. He documented his reckless behavior, including street racing, performing burnouts in parking lots, and driving aggressively (which is a legitimate charge). Interestingly, he forgot to turn off his dashcam and never deleted the incriminating footage.

A teenager from South Carolina managed to avoid a tragedy, but that doesn’t mean he’s getting away without consequences. He has been charged by the police with reckless driving, failing to stop for blue lights, and, adding to the list, attempting to flee the scene.

Teen runaway gets a well-deserved police arrest

Running at high speeds, crashing, and getting caught, this runaway teen in South Carolina had his joyride cut short by the police. Fortunately, he escaped the ordeal with only legal consequences. Perhaps next time, he’ll think twice before hitting the road.
