The agency issued an alert last week in their efforts to find a suspect who placed a device on a debit/credit card machine at the store in the 30000 block of Potomac Way in Charlotte Hall.

The sheriff’s office received a tip from an employee on May 26th. The employee reported a machine malfunction the day before, prompting an inspection. During the inspection, a plastic piece was discovered taped over the machine’s keypad, designed to mimic the keypad.

Upon conducting the initial investigation, it became apparent that the placement of this item was done with the explicit intention of deceiving customers and defrauding them.

Surveillance footage revealed that two individuals entered the store just before noon on Friday, May 24. Upon entering, they split up, with one of them attaching the device to the machine.

They both departed on foot.

The individual who set up the device had bushy hair and was described as being either White or bi-racial. They had a dark mustache, a tattoo on the left side of their neck, and a piercing in their left ear.

The second person is characterized as a man of White or Middle Eastern descent. He has darker skin, long dark hair, and a goatee.

Customers who shopped at the Charlotte Hall Dollar General between May 24 and Sunday, May 26 are advised to carefully review their bank or credit card statements for any signs of fraudulent activity.

If you have been a victim or know anyone who might have encountered this duo, please contact the sheriff’s office at (301) 475-8008.
