In anticipation of Hurricane Beryl, first responders were getting ready for storm preparations in Houston. However, in north Harris County, deputies stumbled upon a concerning scene that quickly turned into a rescue operation.

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez’s tweet on X, during the storm, deputies received a call late Sunday night to the 900 block of Cypress Station near Cypress Creek Pkwy.

Investigators received a call reporting a man who was chasing a child with injuries.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers located a six-year-old child who was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. According to Sheriff Gonzalez, further investigation revealed that a total of six children were residing in what can only be described as appalling living conditions.

The ages of the children varied from 7 months to 11 years old. The deputies provided the children with food and apprehended their mother, Elizabeth Martinez, along with Enterio Coronado. Martinez faced charges of Injury to a Child, while Coronado was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. The nature of his association with the children is unknown.

Assistance from Child Protective Services was also requested to aid in the ongoing investigation.
