On Saturday, June 22, at approximately 1:17 a.m., a deputy from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Interdiction Task Force conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 49 at Hwy 80 in Pearl, MS, after noticing a white Chevrolet SUV failing to maintain a single lane of travel.

While speaking with the driver, South Carolina resident John Jermaine Norman, the deputy began to suspect his involvement in criminal activity.

The deputy requested and received consent to search the vehicle.

He discovered a man-made, aftermarket compartment within the SUV that contained 20 kg of suspected cocaine.

John Norman was arrested for trafficking controlled substances and transported to the Rankin County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond pending his initial appearance.
