The Southern states in the U.S. are getting ready for a major winter storm that is forecasted to affect the region from Thursday to Friday.

The National Weather Service is predicting a significant winter weather event in the Southern Plains and Tennessee Valley. Heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected to affect several states, including Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Snow accumulations of up to 7 inches are possible in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas, while Tennessee and Mississippi could see between 2 to 5 inches. Travel conditions may worsen due to the potential for ice accumulation and freezing rain, particularly in the Mid-South region.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to take place from the Red River Valley to eastern Arkansas, as reported by the NOAA Weather Prediction Center. Additionally, there is a high likelihood of freezing rain in southern regions, which could lead to dangerous road conditions and possible power outages.

Residents are being strongly advised by officials to complete their preparations before the storm arrives. It is recommended that drivers avoid any non-essential travel and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.
