On Sunday, a 14-year-old boy was injured in Queens after participating in the dangerous trend of subway surfing. This harrowing incident highlights the ongoing issue of young individuals putting themselves at risk for the sake of a thrill.

According to the NYPD, while riding on top of a southbound 7 train, a teenager’s head hit a beam as the train arrived at the 111th Street Station at around 4:30 p.m.

According to authorities, the young boy was quickly transported to Elmhurst Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

As commuters make their way through the Corona 7 train station, they’ll notice that it’s located above ground with an overhang that stretches across the tracks. Interestingly, this leaves approximately one foot of space between the beams and the top of the train roof.

Dangerous stunts have been linked to a series of fatal incidents across the city, with the latest being the injury sustained by the teen.

According to officials, more and more teenagers are engaging in subway surfing in an attempt to replicate the daring stunts that are frequently shared on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

According to the MTA statistics, the number of people who rode outside of trains, including on top of them, has increased significantly in the first six months of 2023, with a total of 450 reports. This is a noticeable rise from the 262 reported during the same period in 2019.
