Temperatures Will Drop in the Panhandle as Storm Chances Increase Across Texas

The ongoing heatwave in the Texas Panhandle is expected to subside soon, with a significant shift in the weather pattern. Relief is on the way as temperatures are anticipated to drop sharply on Thursday and Friday, with highs plummeting 20 to 25 degrees below normal. On Friday, some areas may experience highs in the 60s, which is a stark contrast to the sweltering conditions that were experienced earlier this week.

The Panhandle area is set to experience a significant drop in temperature as a cool front makes its way through the region from Thursday, as reported by the National Weather Service in Amarillo. Additionally, the likelihood of storms is expected to increase, particularly late Friday into Saturday, coinciding with the cooler temperatures. The forecast shows that the highest probability of measurable rainfall will occur during the evening and overnight hours. Some of these storms may develop into efficient rain producers, which increases the risk of localized flooding, primarily in areas where storm cells move slowly.

On Friday, the northern Panhandle is likely to experience heavy storm activity with a high chance of receiving at least half an inch of rain, estimated at 70-80%. Although the risk of severe storms is low, there is still a possibility of flash floods due to the expected rainfall.
