A man known for his unique method of using an industrial saw to open ATMs in various Louisiana parishes has been apprehended in Texas.

Alfred Cobb, aged 32, was taken into custody on December 12 in Temple, Texas, as reported in a Facebook post by the St. John The Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. U.S. Marshals apprehended Cobb at a U-Haul facility, and the arrest was carried out smoothly and without any incidents.

Dubbed the “Saw Bandit,” Cobb gained notoriety for his alleged attempts to steal from numerous ATMs in Tangipahoa, Livingston, St. John The Baptist, and East Baton Rouge parishes.

The person is currently facing serious charges of simple burglary and criminal access to ATMs in St. John The Baptist Parish.

Cobb allegedly used “heavy construction tools,” including a cutting saw, to dismantle the outer casing of an ATM in his robbery attempts. However, his efforts to access the cash inside were unsuccessful.

On October 12, the detectives from the St. John Sheriff’s Office were able to identify Cobb after carefully reviewing security footage. The footage revealed that he was allegedly attempting to break into a bank ATM in LaPlace.

The St. John Sheriff’s Office is currently in the process of extraditing Cobb back to Louisiana. In addition to the charges he faces in Louisiana, Cobb is also facing felony firearm charges in Texas.
