AUTAUGAVILLE — The police department in Autaugaville has resigned.

During the town council meeting on Monday night, the part-time chief and two part-time officers submitted their resignations, Mayor Curtis Stoudemire confirmed. Chief John Fuller, who has served in the role for roughly 12 years, was unavailable for comment.

The resignations will take effect on Dec. 30, and Stoudemire is actively working to convince the officers to reconsider and stay on duty. He declined to offer further details about the situation.

“I am acting in good faith in trying to reconcile this, and I think, out of respect for the process, I don’t need to make any comment,” the mayor stated.

The police positions are part-time, with no benefits or retirement. The chief and officers hold other law enforcement and security jobs and rotate shifts in the town.

The Autauga County Sheriff’s Office also provides patrols for the town.

Autaugaville, a community of about 800 residents, is located about 15 miles west of Prattville.
