DC police continue searching for the two guys who robbed three students at gunpoint Wednesday morning near Eastern Senior High School.

According to DC police, three Eastern Senior High School students were approached by numerous unknown guys in the 1700 block of East Capitol Street in Northeast and robbed at 9:15 a.m.

The incident occurred less than a block from Abigail Tanner’s home. Tanner told WUSA9 that the current increase in violent crime among teenagers is alarming for her family and young children.

“These are people’s lives, and it doesn’t take much for them to be shattered,” Tanner told the crowd” I wish there was more to do. I believe it is a community endeavor. Police presence is beneficial. At the very least, accepting that crime can be averted by the presence of law enforcement.”

School administrators informed parents on Wednesday morning that they had sent one child to the hospital.

Tanner also stated that she would like to see more money for student safety.

On Tuesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the removal of the Safe Passage summer programs from the 2026 budget. According to D.C. records, the program’s discontinuation during this time saved the city approximately $3 million.

We created the Safe Passage program to aid students in their travels to and from school and throughout the community.

“You really feel for the kids who are trying to succeed,” Tanner told me. “You want a safe passage program for them, all students, but especially those who are trying to do the right thing. You wish to protect them.

Police say the burglars were last spotted wearing all black and drove two vehicles: a tiny silver SUV and a black sedan. Police said the individuals are armed.

School authorities stated that additional police officers will be present for the remainder of the week during student arrival and dismissal times. They are also encouraging parents to talk to their children about safety and have proposed the following tips:

  • Travel in a group or with a friend, neighbor, or other trusted individual whenever possible
  • Plan to commute to school and arrive by 8:15 a.m. Instruction begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.
  • Keep valuable items out of sight
  • Avoid distractions while walking, like using phones and headphones or other technology; and Walk along main roads, and avoid alleys or other low-visibility paths
