A tragic incident occurred in Channelview, Texas, on Monday afternoon when a 2-year-old child was struck by a vehicle. The accident took place around 2:15 p.m. in the 16400 block of Woodrow Street. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was entering a driveway when the child, who had been playing outside unsupervised, was hit.

The toddler was rushed to Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. Initial reports indicated that the driver remained at the scene; however, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez clarified that the driver fled after the crash, and it was another uninvolved driver who stayed to assist.

This tragic event marks the second child-related fatality in the Houston area on Monday, following an earlier incident where a Milby High School student was struck and killed by a train while walking to school. The circumstances of the student’s incident are still under investigation.
