Trump and Vance return to Georgia, following a recent Harris event in the same arena

Donald Trump is set to make a return to Georgia on Saturday, a state he lost in the previous presidential election. Georgia is currently considered a battleground state that both Democrats and Republicans are eager to win.

Just a few days after Vice President Kamala Harris rallied thousands in the same basketball arena at Georgia State University in Atlanta, former President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold an event at 5 p.m. EDT with his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

The attention of both parties has now shifted to Georgia, a battleground state in the Sun Belt region. Just a couple of weeks ago, Democrats had indicated that they would prioritize the “blue wall” states in the Midwest, but President Joe Biden’s endorsement of Harris and subsequent decision to end his campaign has given the Democrats renewed optimism about expanding their electoral map.

During her speech on Tuesday, Harris confidently declared to a lively and enthusiastic audience that the momentum in the race is shifting. She also pointed out that the signs of Donald Trump feeling the shift are becoming increasingly evident.

In 2020, Biden emerged victorious over Trump in Georgia by a margin of 11,779 votes. Trump, however, attempted to manipulate the outcome by exerting pressure on Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, to “find” enough votes to overturn the election results. Trump’s actions eventually led to an indictment in Georgia. However, the case is currently pending as the courts decide whether the Fulton County district attorney has the authority to continue with the prosecution.

The Trump campaign has recently announced a rally where they accused Harris of causing Georgians to lose money due to inflation and an increase in gas prices. These prices have risen from the pandemic lows that were experienced at the end of the Trump administration. The campaign further highlighted the case of Laken Riley, a nursing student, who was murdered while jogging in a park on Feb. 22. It is worth noting that a Venezuelan citizen has been indicted on murder charges in connection with her death.

The current administration’s efforts on migration have been led by Harris, which has earned her the label of “border czar” from Trump and his allies.

Trump has been making false accusations about Harris’ race and insinuating that she has not been truthful about her identity. However, it has been widely known that Harris has identified as both Black and Indian American throughout her public life.

During her rally in Atlanta, Harris labeled Trump and Vance as “plain weird,” a message that many other Democrats have also been emphasizing lately. Harris also took a jab at Trump for his uncertainty about attending their scheduled debate on September 10th, which is set to air on ABC.

Trump previously stated his willingness to debate Harris, but more recently, he has cast doubt on the potential value of such a meeting. He has criticized the host network, ABC News, as “fake news,” and suggested that he may opt out of the debate. However, he has also acknowledged that he could make a case for participating in the debate.

Both Harris and Trump have been directing their attention and resources towards Georgia, highlighting the state’s renewed importance to both parties in the upcoming November elections. By visiting Atlanta, Trump is targeting the state’s most extensive media market, which includes suburbs and exurbs that were once Republican strongholds but have since become more diverse and competitive with population growth.

After Biden withdrew from the race, Jen O’Malley Dillon, the campaign chair for Harris, released a strategy memo that emphasized the significance of securing the Democratic stronghold trio of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. However, she also highlighted that Harris’ position as the presidential candidate “opens up additional persuadable voters.” These voters are mostly Black, Latino, and under the age of 30, and are found in states like Georgia.

Harris has scheduled visits to the Midwestern states, North Carolina, Arizona, and Nevada next week, accompanied by her running mate. In addition, she will be making a stop in Georgia on Friday.
