Three men and two juveniles are facing robbery charges after prosecutors accused them of mugging a group of suburbanites admiring the city skyline.

According to prosecutors, four Des Plaines men, aged 18 to 20, were taking in the nighttime view of downtown from the roof of a parking garage in the 2300 block of West Logan. At least one other group was savoring the view from the roof when someone approached the victims and inquired as to which gang they belonged to, according to prosecutors in custody proceedings.

The second group then crossed the roof and looted the victims, according to the documents. One of the youths brandished a knife and pursued a suburban man. The man fled, but he lost a shoe and his phone in the process.

The same youngster pursued a second victim, stealing his belt.

A third victim attempted to flee, but the group allegedly apprehended him and robbed him of his phone, wallet, and keys at knifepoint.

Prosecutors claimed the robbers chased the victims for a short distance before fleeing. Meanwhile, the victims used a phone-tracking app to find one of their stolen phones in a nearby bowling alley. When they arrived, they allegedly discovered the five criminals in two separate automobiles in the parking lot.

The victims waved down a neighboring police officer, who arrested the group and requested backup.

Prosecutors charged Osvaldo Chaidez, 20; Jack Ognar, 18; Ryan Eggleston, 29; and two juveniles with four counts of robbery.

According to the documents, Chaidez assaulted one of the victims while Ognar captured the incident on his phone.

According to authorities, Eggleston’s car included one victim’s shoe, another victim’s belt, and a set of brass knuckles.

Judge James Murphy III denied all three individuals jail and instead ordered electronic monitoring. The details of the juvenile cases are not publicly known.
