Rochester, N.Y. — Two years after a shooting at an Airbnb on the city’s east side left one person dead and four others injured, two individuals now face charges related to the incident.

Officers responded to a home on Illinois Street around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2022, after reports of gunshots and people being shot.

Police stated that 20-30 people had gathered at the home, which had been rented to film a rap video in memory of a murder victim.

Investigators found that a group entered the home around 10:30 p.m. to confront someone they suspected had stolen a gun. Police said that multiple individuals then fired several shots.

While securing the scene, officers learned that five people had arrived at local hospitals with gunshot wounds sustained on Illinois Street.

Jahkeem Douglas, 24, later died after being dropped off at Rochester General Hospital. Four other men, aged 19 to 30, were injured.

A search warrant executed at a Henry Street location led authorities to recover two handguns, an assault-style rifle, two shotguns, ballistic armor vests, several extended rifle and pistol magazines, a “large quantity” of suboxone, fentanyl, amphetamine pills, and more than 50 grams of cocaine.

An indictment unsealed Tuesday morning charged 32-year-old Martin Gibson, who was injured in the shooting, with murder in connection with Douglas’ death.

Police said they also executed a search warrant early Tuesday at Gibson’s home on Glenwood Avenue, finding a loaded 9mm handgun, a .22-caliber rifle, about 10 grams of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia used for packaging and selling drugs.

Gibson, who has a history of drug and gun convictions, faces several additional drug and gun charges related to the search. He was arraigned Wednesday morning and is being held without bail in the Monroe County Jail.

An indictment unsealed Thursday morning charged 31-year-old Davonte Lippens with assault in the Illinois Street shooting and weapons possession in connection with the Henry Street search.

Police stated that no further murder charges are expected, though additional arrests in the case may occur.

This is a developing story.
