A Brooklyn man was sentenced for an execution-style murder that killed one man and paralyzed another, officials said Monday.

Romaine McRae, 40, received a collective sentence of 45 years to life, with an additional five years of post-release supervision. This verdict came after a jury found him guilty on multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler confirmed the conviction.

According to prosecutors, two individuals were shot, leading to the unfortunate demise of one man and leaving the other paralyzed.

Two men were shot, resulting in one man’s death and leaving the other paralyzed, prosecutors said.

McRae and Hines were apprehended in Brooklyn on July 12, 2023, following an extensive investigation.

Hines has already admitted guilt for murder and attempted murder, and is currently awaiting sentencing.

“The sentence imposed for this defendant, which should all but ensure he will never again be free to commit acts of violence, reflects the merciless carnage he perpetrated” said Hoovler. “But for the intrepid investigation by the City of Newburgh Police Department and their dedicated Detective Bureau, this defendant might have avoided the long arm of justice.”
