Over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, multiple residences were burglarized by a pair of thieves. Families who were away during this time were targeted and home surveillance systems captured footage of the burglars breaking in. Currently, two police agencies are investigating the incidents.

A break-in occurred on the southeast side of Indianapolis right before 10 a.m.

Upon reviewing security footage, it was observed that a man dressed in a tan uniform approached the residence and repeatedly knocked on the front door. Upon realizing that there was no one home, the man proceeded to make a phone call to his presumed accomplice.

Once inside the house, the burglars were caught on camera as they searched through the homeowner’s possessions before hastily leaving the scene and driving away. According to the victim who spoke with both FOX59 and CBS, the thieves managed to steal a significant amount of jewelry and cash.

According to reports, the burglars proceeded towards the Stone Ridge neighborhood, located just outside of Greenfield.

According to both the locals and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the duo attempted to seek assistance by knocking on four different doors, but unfortunately, none of the residents were available at that time.

As the burglars continued on their spree, they arrived at a fifth home, only to find that the family was away on vacation. When asked about the incident, the homeowner requested to remain anonymous.

She expressed a feeling of helplessness and shock as she recounted the incident. “We’ve lived here, we built where we live, and we’ve always enjoyed the peace of our home in this area,” she said.

The alarm company notified her and her family about the incident, and they all witnessed the burglars moving through their house.

She expressed feeling vulnerable and helpless, stating, “It feels very vulnerable. We felt very vulnerable and helpless because we were away and couldn’t rush home.”

The police were alerted by the alarm company, but unfortunately, the burglars were fast. According to the homeowner, they only spent about five or six minutes inside, snatching whatever they could get their hands on.

She expressed that the loss was significant for their family and not just limited to the monetary aspect. The situation resulted in the theft of sentimental items, which added to the emotional impact of the loss.

As people go on their out-of-town vacations and summer is in full swing, burglars may take advantage of the situation, according to IMPD.

According to William Young with IMPD, homeowners need to be watchful and take necessary precautions. This includes using surveillance cameras, setting up alarm systems, and informing neighbors if they will be away. Neighbors can help by keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity and even collecting mail. Being proactive and alert is the key to keeping one’s home safe.

The detectives working on these cases are relying on the public to help identify the criminals and bring them to justice. They are hoping that someone will come forward with information that can lead to the arrest and conviction of these perpetrators. So if you have any information that can be of help, please do not hesitate to come forward and report it to the authorities. It is only by working together that we can put an end to these crimes and make our communities safer.

The IMPD and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting investigations as the burglaries took place within their respective jurisdictions.

If you have any information regarding the burglary that took place in Hancock County, please get in touch with the sheriff’s office by calling (317) 477-1199. They would appreciate any assistance you can provide.

If you possess any information regarding the Indianapolis incident, you can reach out to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
