In February 2019, a woman lost her life during a police struggle, and the Indianapolis city government had requested a new trial. However, their request has been denied by a federal court.

The family of Elenor Northington was granted a jury award of $500,000.

During a prayer service at a church, Northington was restrained by officers following a complaint that she was being belligerent. Unfortunately, it was during this time that she stopped breathing.

The lawsuit initially argued that the death of the victim was a direct result of the use of force by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

According to the autopsy report, the cause of death of the 43-year-old individual was attributed to a shortage of oxygen. The Marion County coroner has stated that this was a result of the individual’s morbid obesity, schizophrenia, and a physical altercation with others.

According to Northington’s family, she was not taking any medication but was experiencing postpartum depression.
