According to a Houston mother, the man who reportedly battered and stalked her daughter is currently at large.
The deceased, Javoni, 31, was dropped off at her residence on Lockfield Road in northwest Houston on September 29 by a ridesharing service. Despite the victim’s serious injuries, the mother is holding out hope that witnesses will come forward
“As a mother, I’m happy as long as she’s happy,” Shameka Fortner remarked. Every day, Fortner spends time seeing her eldest kid, who remains in the hospital. Javoni works two jobs and is a mother of five.
Fortner stated, “She went out to paint and have a drink, take some time for herself, and do a little self-care.” Fortner received a phone call at approximately 9:30 p.m.
“She was screaming, ‘Mom, mom, someone tried to beat me to death with a bat,’ and I could hear her hysterically,” Fortner recalled.
According to the police, the suspect followed the victim inside the apartment building while operating a dark vehicle. They claimed that the suspect stepped out of his vehicle and attacked the woman with a bat or club after she exited the ridesharing.
Her family believes her assailant is someone she knew, even though she didn’t see them. They weren’t dating, and this wasn’t a boyfriend or anything; it was someone she rejected, but he has been threatening my daughter, she claimed.
When a witness discovered Fortner hurt the night of the assault, they alerted the police. Fortner was brought to the hospital in critical condition, according to HPD.
The mother thinks her daughter defended herself by using something. She answered, “Yes, she will be disabled for the rest of her life. I still have the purse she was holding, and I probably would have been burying my daughter last weekend if it weren’t for her purse.”
Although she is happy her daughter is still alive, she hopes the public can assist law enforcement in identifying the culprit.
“There’s no way to know how many times he’s done this, so getting him must be our top priority,” she continued.
