A pedestrian was involved in a fatal crash on I-45 North Freeway at West Road, leading to the closure of the freeway for over three hours on Monday morning.

At approximately 4:35 a.m., a passerby alerted the Houston Police Department about a car crash into a fence on the feeder road.

In a video captured by ABC13, a black Chevy Impala can be seen severely damaged as it crashes into the fence of a nearby business.

A passerby noticed the driver’s erratic behavior and took a moment to assess the situation. Concerned for the driver’s well-being, the passerby immediately contacted emergency services. However, before any help could arrive, the driver unexpectedly darted into the mainlanes, resulting in a tragic accident that took his life.

The driver who was hit and killed by a vehicle did not receive any assistance as the vehicle responsible for the accident fled the scene. The authorities have not yet released a description of the vehicle involved in the incident.

The mainlanes reopened at 8 a.m., and traffic gradually began to move again.
