As North Texas braces for a significant weather shift, residents should prepare for potential severe storms on Friday, November 8, 2024. Here’s a detailed look at the forecast, including the possibility of storms, rainfall, and what to expect over the weekend.

  • 3 Evening: Storms Moving Out
  • 4 Beautiful Weekend Ahead
  • 5 Warming Up Next Week
  • 6 Midweek Weather: A Cold Front Moves In

  • 8 Final Notes

The day began with light rain and drizzle scattered across the region, with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. Areas west and northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth received heavy overnight rainfall, causing flash flooding in some counties. Flooding rains resulted in warnings in Wise and Jack counties, which remained in effect until the early morning. A Flash Flood Watch will continue until 9 p.m. Friday.

Severe Storms Expected Friday Afternoon

The storm system that has already brought heavy snow to northern New Mexico and eastern Colorado will move into North Texas by Friday afternoon. From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., a line of showers and storms is expected to sweep across the area, with some of these storms potentially turning severe. Key threats include:

  • Small hail: Pocket-sized hail, the size of change, could impact the area.
  • Strong winds: Gusty winds capable of causing damage.
  • Low tornado threat: While the tornado risk is low, it is never zero.

Despite the severity of the storms, warnings will likely be few, and the overall threat of widespread severe weather remains limited. Afternoon temperatures will peak near 70°F, with winds from the southeast at 15-25 mph.

Evening: Storms Moving Out

By the evening, storms will gradually wind down, with the rain tapering off before midnight. Cooler air will move in, bringing temperatures to the mid to upper 50s overnight. Winds will shift to the northeast at 10-20 mph.

Beautiful Weekend Ahead

After a stormy Friday, the weekend will bring much-needed relief. Saturday will start with clear skies and cool temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, reaching highs near 70°F by afternoon. Winds will be light, coming from variable directions at 5-10 mph.

Sunday will feature more sunshine and comfortable temperatures, with highs in the mid-70s. It’s shaping up to be an ideal weekend for outdoor activities.

Warming Up Next Week

Looking ahead, North Texas can expect a warm-up early next week. Monday and Tuesday will bring sunny skies with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s, and some areas may even hit 80°F on Tuesday.

Midweek Weather: A Cold Front Moves In

On Wednesday, a cold front will push through during the morning, bringing a slight chance of showers and storms. Afternoon highs will hover around the low 70s, and the cooler, drier air will begin to take hold by Thursday and Friday, providing a sunny end to the week.

7-Day Weather Highlights:

  • Friday: Cloudy with morning showers and a line of storms from 3-9 p.m. Potential for small hail and damaging wind. Highs near 70°F.
  • Saturday: Sunny and beautiful with highs near 70°F.
  • Sunday: Plenty of sunshine, highs in the mid-70s.
  • Monday and Tuesday: Sunny and warm, highs in the upper 70s to near 80°F.
  • Wednesday: Breezy, with scattered showers and storms in the morning, sunny by afternoon. Highs in the low 70s.
  • Thursday: Sunny and pleasant, high near 70°F.

Final Notes

Friday’s weather will be a mixed bag, with the risk of severe storms in the afternoon and evening, followed by a gorgeous and mild weekend. Be sure to stay updated on the weather as the storms approach, and enjoy the sunshine that follows!
