A woman wanted for a deadly hit-and-run in Harris County was apprehended when she attempted to book a flight out of state. She is now in custody.

Early Wednesday morning, a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Airtex Dr. and Brundage Dr.

Authorities report that the suspect struck a cyclist and then fled the scene. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the site. The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed.

The authorities have officially identified the driver as 22-year-old Nyla Gamboa. She was apprehended at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and is now facing charges of failure to stop and render aid in relation to a fatal incident.

The suspect vehicle was found in the Timber Crossing neighborhood near Willow Briar Dr. and Bayberry Meadows Ln, according to Constables. The SUV was discovered running but vacant.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office deputies are currently on the lookout for a suspect vehicle. The vehicle in question is a black SUV that has sustained front-end damage.

Authorities are currently holding Gamboa in custody as they carry out an ongoing investigation into the incident.
