According to CBS New York sources, the discovery of a burning body on Oak Street Bridge in Yonkers early Monday has been connected to additional remains found inside an apartment in the Bronx.

On Tuesday, the apartment was under investigation by the Bronx DA’s office and NYPD crime scene investigators. They spent the entire day there gathering evidence and information.

Located on the corner of 163rd Street, a beautiful mural dedicated to the late rapper Christopher “Big Pun” Rios adorns the five-story walk-up building. This iconic destination is a popular stop on Bronx hip-hop tours, where tourists flock to take in the cultural significance of the area. Police can often be seen mingling with visitors, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of this historic location.

Longwood resident Rokhaya Gaye expressed her fear and concern about the safety in New York, stating that it is really scary and crazy. She emphasized that people cannot consider themselves safe anymore and have to watch their back while walking around.

Bruce Maine, a resident of Longwood, expressed his sentiments saying, “It’s very sad and the way it was carried out is very sinister and methodical.”

Body found burning Oak Street Bridge in Yonkers

Yonkers police reported that the initial body parts were discovered around 2 a.m. Monday on the sidewalk of the Oak Street Bridge near the Yonkers-Mt. Vernon border.

The remains had been placed inside a collapsible shopping cart and then set on fire, police said. They determined this appeared to be a “dump site” and handed the homicide investigation over to the NYPD and the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim’s identity remains unknown. According to police, the body was so badly burned that investigators are struggling to determine who the person was and how they died.
