A Plantersville man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a high-speed chase that ended in flames in Cypress, Texas.
According to a release from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), a driver with expired registration was pulled over by a Grimes County deputy at CR 304 and SH 249 in Plantersville around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. However, instead of complying with the deputy’s instructions to exit the vehicle, the driver chose to engage in a high-speed chase with the authorities.
According to the GCSO, the suspect was driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, overtaking other vehicles in areas where passing was prohibited, and eventually reaching speeds of around 120 mph.
The driver led deputies to Harris County, where they collided with two vehicles.
The driver was finally brought to a stop by two state troopers who employed a technique known as a “pit maneuver.” In this maneuver, the troopers’ vehicles are turned sideways in order to halt the driver. The chase ultimately ended at the intersection of Louetta and Telge roads in Cypress.
The suspect, after finally exiting the vehicle through the passenger side door, made a run for it and was eventually subdued with a taser. According to GCSO, despite the imminent arrest, the suspect continued to put up a fight.
James Harvey of Plantersville has been identified as the driver. He has been arrested and booked into the Grimes County Jail on a charge of Evading Arrest Detention with a Motor Vehicle.
During the chase, the GCSO received assistance from multiple agencies, including the Todd Mission Police Department, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office K9 Units, the Harris Co.
Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. These agencies played a crucial role in supporting the GCSO deputies throughout the pursuit.
