Johnson City, Tennessee was the setting for the following events.

Tennessee’s August election has released its early voting turnout numbers.

Only 5.7 percent of the Washington County residents turned up for voting. It is estimated that the voter turnout may reach up to 12 percent after people cast their votes on Thursday.

According to Dana Jones, the Administrator of elections, the significance of these local and state races cannot be overstated.

Jones explained that all aspects of daily life are currently being managed, except for the November election, which is currently a nighttime soap opera and when everyone becomes involved.

According to election officials, voter turnout in Tennessee witnessed a decline of 43 percent as compared to the previous year’s elections. However, it is worth noting that the turnout was still 25 percent higher than the 2016 elections. Analysts attribute this to the highly contested presidential primaries that took place in 2020.

According to Jones, the statistics indicate a rise in the number of Democratic voters.

In this election, a significant increase in the number of voters choosing a Democratic ballot was observed, with 23% of voters opting for it compared to just under 13% in 2020. Johnson, Sullivan, and Washington Counties have all shown remarkable growth in the number of Democratic voters, placing them in the top ten counties statewide.

Jones emphasized the importance of having candidates for all offices on the primary ballot for the Democrat party. “If there are no options, voters will likely stay home,” he stated.

Better turnout is being observed in Sullivan County due to the presence of an open Kingsport mayor’s seat and a highly contested state senate primary. The current voter turnout stands at 10 percent, which is only a 14 percent decrease from the previous year.

It is advisable to be prepared when heading to the polls on Thursday, as suggested by election officials.

According to Jason Booher, the administrator of elections in Sullivan County, the most accurate method to find out your polling location is to utilize the voter lookup feature on their website. By entering your information, the website will provide you with the exact location where you are supposed to cast your vote on election day. It is also recommended to review the sample ballots beforehand so that you are aware of what is included on your ballot.

On August 1, the polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
