On Thursday, a Republican Senate candidate faced heavy criticism on social media for being hypocritical. This came after the candidate was caught saying one thing but doing the complete opposite. The incident sparked widespread mockery and ridicule online.

Bernie Moreno, a candidate challenging Democratic Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, positioned himself near Brown’s office in Washington D.C. and made a commitment to answer any questions from reporters, regardless of their level of controversy.

He expressed his willingness to address any queries and even tackle difficult questions at any given time, stating, “I will talk to you at any point in time — even take tough questions.” In contrast, he mentioned that Sherrod Brown would not do the same.

During the press conference, the 57-year-old ex-luxury car dealer emphasized the importance of communication skills for political candidates. He stated that those who are unable to address the media and give clear, unequivocal positions have no business running for office. The gathered journalists were given this valuable insight into what the ex-dealer believes makes a successful political candidate.

He reminded them of their responsibility to the people who elected them, saying, “That’s what you owe your voters.”

Andrew Desiderio, a reporter for Punchbowl News, decided to see if that promise would hold true.

During a conversation, Desiderio questioned Moreno about his stance on a 15-week ban on abortion and whether it contradicts the recent decision of the Republican Party to eliminate references to a 20-week national abortion ban and the sanctity of life constitutional amendment from its campaign platform.

In a matter of seconds, Moreno’s response took a complete U-turn from his prior commitment.

Moreno made it clear that the discussion was not about abortion, but quickly shifted the focus to criticizing President Joe Biden.

Below is the exchange for your reference.

Social media users mercilessly mocked Moreno for his promise to answer difficult questions, only to back down when faced with one.
