D.C. police have recently released the identity of the second person who tragically lost their life in a crash that occurred after a police chase early this July. According to DC News Now, the victim’s name has been revealed.

On July 2, around 12:35 p.m., Dashawn Harris, a 17-year-old resident of Southeast, D.C. and Zagory Leo Hill, an 18-year-old from District Heights, Md., lost their lives in a tragic car accident. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed that the crash occurred in the District and both victims died at the scene of the incident. The accident was so severe that it caused a fire.

According to MPD, a BMW that was wanted in connection with multiple robberies was being chased by the U.S. Park Police and Anne Arundel County Police. The car was observed driving at a high speed in the 4100 block of Southern Ave. When the driver lost control, the vehicle veered off the road and mounted the sidewalk.

In a news release, the MPD reported that the BMW collided with a tree while heading south with such impact that it split the vehicle in half. The front part of the car rotated and came to a halt against an iron fence.

After being thrown out of the car, 19-year-old Demetri Koger made an attempt to flee the scene, but was soon apprehended by the police. Koger faced charges for being a fugitive from justice and was subsequently taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries.

The officers who arrived at the scene had to extricate Harris and Hill from the vehicle. Unfortunately, both individuals passed away on-site as a result of the incident.

On July 3, authorities were able to identify Harris, while it took until July 15 for the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MPD investigators to identify Hill.
