A Middletown woman was driving home with her kids in the car when a bullet grazed the side of her head.

She says she has not driven since the incident on May 15.

“We didn’t hear a shot until it went through the back windshield. Immediately I felt it. I touched my head and saw the blood,” she said.

She claims that her son was lying down, her daughter was asleep, and she and her boyfriend were talking.

The woman turned down Charles Street, the first side street she found, and sought assistance from a neighbor.

She claims her kids and boyfriend were not wounded.

“I was scared but I knew I had to get somewhere to get them safe. I knew I was bleeding. I was hit but I needed to get somewhere to get them safe to see if they were hit.”

The woman was rushed to Atrium Medical Center and then moved to UC Medical Center, where she claims doctors discovered a shell casing in her wig.

According to the pictures, the bullet grazed the side of her head, causing a gash.

“I don’t know why. I don’t know who and that’s the scary part.”

We have not yet received any information about the arrest of a suspect, which is why we are withholding her identity.

“From what the doctor said, because I was leaning over at the time reaching down to get my purse, it was one centimeter from me not being here,” she said. “I just know my purpose here is not done. I still have a purpose.”

She cannot return to work until her wound has healed.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help her family survive until that happens.
