A suspect wanted for attempted murder in New York City was apprehended last week in Cumberland County, Lower Allen Township Police reported Tuesday.

Gerald Vailes, a 35-year-old resident of the Bronx, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals on January 15th, according to the police department. After conducting a traffic stop on the 1200 block of Lower Allen Drive in Camp Hill, the agency reached out to Lower Allen Township Police.

According to the police, the vehicle had been under surveillance by U.S. Marshals for a number of weeks.

According to police documents, officers who arrived at the scene had a conversation with Vailes. At first, Vailes claimed to be someone named Hector Suriel-Rosario. However, after some time, he confessed and revealed his true identity.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Vailes had six credit cards and a Florida driver’s license under the name of Suriel-Rosario. It was later confirmed that Suriel-Rosario was an actual individual residing in Puerto Rico, as stated in the charging documents.

Police have charged Vailes with a misdemeanor count of identity theft in connection to the traffic stop in Lower Allen Township. Additionally, he is facing attempted homicide and other related charges in New York.

Police said that Vailes is currently being held at Cumberland County Prison and is awaiting extradition to New York.
